SALT PRINTING

A TWO DAY COURSE

This two day photography course involved an initial day of creating a salt solution, coating and drying the paper - then going out with the large format 5x4 camera and taking some negatives ready to be used in the prints. The day ended with the developing of these negatives .

On the second day, and once the salted paper and negatives were completely dry, we coated the paper with silver nitrate solution and spent the session printing the negatives produced in the first session.

The entire process was slow and enjoyable, and most importantly accessible and safe to someone who’s never tried salt printing previously. We ended up with some beautiful, practised and considered prints, as well as a deeper understanding on alternative process and contact printing.
